Review: Sometimes a mother's love is not unconditional. One day a child wakes up and life is good. He is enjoying great times with family by doing things like going to parks and visiting different cities together.  Then when he least expects it everything changes and he is treated worse than a dog. He is beaten, starved, and totally neglected. It feels like his soul has gone dark. But there is always hope if he puts his faith in strangers.

“A Child Called It” talks about a subject that is hard to read because of how many horrible events that happen to a young boy. It is told from the authors memories which are so painful. This story causes the reader to feel true emotion on a deep level. Even though it is difficult to read at times, you still want to read on to see if the main character, David, ever gets out of his extremely abusive situation.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in stories about how a young life can change so quickly without warning. Even though child abuse happens every day, this specific story really touches the heart of the reader. It takes the reader on an emotional journey that goes from happy to sad to anger and frustration. This story will stick with you for a long time to come.

  1. I was almost going to read this book when we were researching non-fiction options, but I thought it looked too sad and depressing. However based on your recommendation, I think I might read this book in my free time.
