She talks about her times as a child, the hurdles she faced to become an actress and her time in Gilmore Girls, one of the most magical times of her life. This book is purely about Lauren Graham’s astonishing life full of lessons and amusing stories.

The book starts off with Graham talking about her childhood spent with her father, then she gradually begins to talk about her lifelong journey to become an actress. Not only is it insightful, but hilarious. Lauren is brutally honest to her audience about her experiences in life, regardless of how embarrassing. She mainly talks about her days in Gilmore Girls as well as the revival, however, you may not want to read the end of the book if you have yet to see all four episodes of Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life on Netflix. If you haven’t, I propose that you spend a day doing so, you won’t regret it.
I have to admit, I’m not one to read a book such as a memoir, but when I was reading, I didn’t feel like I was being told facts I didn’t care about. I was being told a story by Lauren and that is why Talking as Fast as I Can is remarkably unique. It’s not just the actual written down words that make this read incredible, but the way it’s organized. It’s a little all over the place, though it was messy in such a good way! It was the sequence of events that created her as a person and it wasn’t just all this random information, it was life lessons, witty stories, and serious moments where she discovered herself as an actress. It had moments infinitely memorable that if one day Lauren Graham asked me if I knew she didn’t like judging, I could say “yes I did.”
It’s not every day that we get the opportunity to read books written by our favorite actress, but today was the day for me. Throughout reading this book I felt connected to a famous person that so happens to be just like you and me. She even put pictures that made you feel even more a part of her life. I would highly recommend this book to anyone, although I would highly recommend it to any Gilmore Girl lover out there. Lauren made me laugh hysterically, she made me cry tears of joy, and she taught me that “Bell-Bottoms will go in and out of style every few years for the rest of my life” so I might as well never get rid of them.
